Jessica Hayllar (1858.1940) depicted quiet scenes (e.g. A Coming Event, 1886; London, Forbes Mag. Col.) that chart contemporary women.s life, with an element of discreet iconoclasm in their oblique references to the debate then current over women and property rights. In 1900 she was crippled in an accident and thereafter painted flower-pieces. |
